Will 33-inch tires fit a Cherokee XJ with a 3-inch lift?
Fitment answer · Updated October 27, 2026
Short answer
Usually yes, with a little trimming. A 3-inch lift is one of the most common XJ setups for 33s. Many owners trim the rear of the front fenders or the bumper end caps for full-lock clearance and use wheels with sensible backspacing.

What you usually need
- Light trimming at the front fender and bumper corners.
- Wheels with about 3.75 to 4.5 inches of backspacing, depending on tire width.
- Bump stop extensions and an alignment.
Regearing
XJs with 3.55 gears feel slower on 33s; many owners regear to around 4.10 or 4.56. 3.73 trucks tolerate them better. Compare ratios in the Tire & Gear Calculator before you buy gears.
