Will 37-inch tires fit a JL Wrangler Rubicon?
Fitment answer · Updated October 23, 2026
Short answer
Yes, with work. The Rubicon has the most clearance of any JL, but 37s usually call for a lift of roughly 2.5 inches or more, wheels with the right backspacing, bump stop changes and often high-clearance fenders. Plan on a regear.
What you usually need
- A lift, commonly in the 2.5–3.5 inch range, depending on how much flex you want without rubbing.
- Wheels with less backspacing than stock so the tire clears the control arms and frame at full lock.
- Bump stop extensions sized to your lift so the tire can’t stuff into the fender.
- Often high-clearance or trimmed fenders, plus an alignment after install.
Regearing
37s are a big jump from stock. Many Rubicon owners regear (often to around 4.88 or 5.13) to get back acceleration, highway RPM and crawl ratio. Run your numbers in the calculator before you buy gears.
Other caveats
- Heavier tires and wheels add stress to steering, ball joints and axles; many owners upgrade the steering and inspect parts more often.
- A 37-inch spare usually needs a heavier-duty tire carrier.
- Recalibrate the speedometer, and check brake feel with the added rotating weight.
Gear for this build
- Mud-terrain tires (search) — Louder on the highway; buy for real mud use.
- Staun tire deflators — Repeatable trail pressures.
- VIAIR 88P portable compressor — Air back up before the highway.
- YUNPEAK 1.26" × 30' kinetic recovery rope — Bigger tires, bigger trails: carry recovery gear.
