Will 33-inch tires fit a stock JK Wrangler?
Fitment answer · Updated October 23, 2026
Short answer
Often yes. Many JK owners run 33-inch tires (often a 285/70R17 or similar) on stock suspension. Expect possible rubbing at full lock or full flex, especially with wider tires or aftermarket wheels; a small leveling kit is a common fix.
What to check
- Actual tire size: “33-inch” tires vary in true diameter and width between brands.
- Wheel backspacing: stock wheels usually work; aggressive offsets can rub the control arms or fenders.
- Flex: on stock bump stops, the tire may touch the fender liner when the suspension compresses fully.
Regearing
The lift is optional, but tire size affects gearing. JKs with taller stock gears, and especially the earlier 3.8 engine, can feel sluggish on 33s. Compare ratios in the calculator before deciding.
Other caveats
- Recalibrate the speedometer for accurate speed and odometer readings.
- Check that a full-size 33-inch spare fits the factory tire carrier.
