Will 37-inch tires fit a JK Wrangler with a 4-inch lift?
Fitment answer · Updated October 23, 2026
Short answer
Often, with work. A 4-inch lift is a common starting point for 37s on a JK, but most owners still add fender trimming or flat fenders, bump stop changes and wheels with the right backspacing. Plan on a regear and stronger steering and axle parts.
What you usually need
- Fender trimming or aftermarket flat or high-clearance fenders; stock flares are the main limit on 37s.
- Wheels with less backspacing than stock so the tire clears the control arms at full lock.
- Bump stop extensions, correct control arm and track bar setup, and an alignment after install.
Regearing
37s are a very large jump on a JK. Most owners regear (often to around 4.88 or 5.13) to recover acceleration, highway RPM and crawl ratio. Compare ratios in the Tire & Gear Calculator before you buy gears.
Drivetrain and steering
- Stock axle shafts, ball joints and steering parts take more stress with 37s; many owners upgrade the steering and axle shafts and inspect parts more often.
- A 37-inch spare usually needs a heavier-duty tire carrier.
- Recalibrate the speedometer and check brake feel with the added rotating weight.
Gear for this build
- Mud-terrain tires (search) — Louder on the highway; buy for real mud use.
- Staun tire deflators — Repeatable trail pressures.
- VIAIR 88P portable compressor — Air back up before the highway.
- YUNPEAK 1.26" × 30' kinetic recovery rope — Bigger tires, bigger trails: carry recovery gear.

FAQ
Is 4 inches enough for 37s on a JK?
It is a common minimum, but how well it works depends on the tire, wheels and trimming. Many owners go taller for more flex without rubbing.
Do I have to upgrade the axles for 37s?
Not always, but 37s add stress, and many owners upgrade axle shafts or the axle itself, especially for hard off-road use.
What about 35s?
35s fit more easily. See 35s on a JK with a 3.5" lift.
